Artist: Kim Suhui
Maple Wood
Dimensions: 5.5H X 5W x 2.5 opening

Artist Kim Suhui’s precision is unmatched. She graduated with a degree in design and worked in architecture, so the meticulous precision in her craft achieves the same level of careful consideration to her moon jars just as she did to her buildings and her furniture. Kim Suhui has fond memories of woodworking thanks to her father who is also a woodworker, and she remembers the scent of his studio the most. The artist loves nature and spends most of her mornings in the garden with her trees before she rides her bike into her studio. Though she makes furniture, she also meditates with her moon jars, the warm and calming effect of wood and its natural silhouette. Finished with oil.

Care: Moon jar has not been treated for water. Please do not put water in the moon jar. This piece has intentional color variation and cracks. Dust when needed. Extremely fragile, please lift from below.

The artist believes people need to do what they love.

Seven years ago, artist Kim Suhui quit her career in construction management. Though she was an architect, she desperately wanted to create a design of her own and began woodworking as a hobby. Her father was a woodworker his whole life, and he makes both traditional furniture and objects and and had many fond memories of growing up watching her father work in his studio. Kim Suhui majored in design, and loves to think about decor – how to fill a space and make her surroundings beautiful, especially to transform a room energetically. To this day, she designs large-scale furniture like tables and chairs and her meditation on moon jars started quite recently in order to quiet her mind and makes her feel at ease. Unlike clay moon jars, once you make a mistake in wood, you can never recover. For the artist, wood teaches her to get over her mistakes quickly and move on. The artist believes people need to do what they love, and woodworking has given her with a joyful life that she can own. She’s changed the entire perspective on what happiness is and what she needs to be happy.
