Jung Yoon Young
Oak Wood
Dimensions: 20L x 7W x 3H

Jung Yoon Young was sitting under a traditional Korean home called a hanok and was inspired by the slightly curved roofline. The shape of the tray’s slighted lifted edges also reminded her of the sleeve on traditional Korean clothing. Jung Yoon Young likes that the tray feels both very Korean, but universal at the same time. Finished with a natural oil. The top of the tray is shaped by cutting with a wood plane by hand. Finished with a natural oil.

Care: This tray is okay to use with food. Please wash after use with a soft sponge. Do not leave it submerged in water. Wipe with a dry towel after washing.

Jung Yoon Young Woodwork

Through woodworking and realized that she’s a meticiulous and detailed person.

Jung Yoon Young has been a woodworker for four years. Though she grew up in Seoul and spent some time as an interior designer, she left the big city for the countryside to pursue wood. Her whole family followed. At 33 years old, she came to know what she wanted quite early thanks to finding woodworking as a hobby. Jung Yoon Young fell in love with working with wood: she felt excitement at the unpredictability of the medium. She grew closer to know who she is through woodworking and realized that she’s a meticiulous and detailed person – something she didn’t realize before. She makes the tray base with machinery, but finishes it the rest by hand and whittles the edges. The artist also makes furniture, but feels a pull towards these smaller objects because they force her to use her hands.
