Artist: Lee Seok Do
Oak
Dimensions: 16L x 8.5W x 1.25H

Flower-shaped motif trays are quite common in Korea, and are often finished by sandpaper, creating a smooth surface or by completing it by trimming the edges quite neatly. Artist Lee Seok Do made his tray with the hope that the surface would feel more loose and primitive in contrast and finished his tray with Liberon Finishing oil to highlight the mottled chisel carvings on the surface of his tray.

Care: The tray is slightly waterproof (please do not submerge in water), and dry food can be served on the tray. Wipe down with a damp cloth after use.

The medium has taught Lee Seok Do patience and how to let go of control.

Artist Lee Seok Do loves boxing. From him, boxing is like watching two partners dance, and likens that to his relationship with wood. Wood is his partner, and if he wants to be a good partner, as an artist, he needs to bend and be flexible. But, there are some days the wood won’t dance with him. It’s taught him to let go when it’s time to. He credits woodworking to not only being his dance partner, but with being his teacher as well. The medium has taught him patience and how to let go of control. It’s only within this medium that he can sit with laser focus and lose himself in and quiet his mind.
